I was never really into clothes before college but I just started paying more attention to it now. It’s basically summer here and I don’t know what types of clothes to wear.

I’m 5’7″ and pounds and most of the weight is on my butt. I hate wearing shorts because they’re always loose on the waist same with jeansso I wear leggings instead.

I usually lean towards tighter dresses to show off my figure because I look like a stick in sundresses. That leaves midi dresses.

Def not a faux pas, at least not right now. Sporty luxe is still in, ie. Stan Smiths, Vans, Nikes go with everything right now. I love this look, personally.

I think it looks so effortless and cool. One way I like to dress down bodycon is to throw a flannel over it – I have a blue and red men’s one that fits slightly large, and I like to wear it open and with the sleeves rolled to the elbow over a black bodycon dress tights if it’s a mini.

I also have a larger denim shirt that I wear the same way.

I think flat sneaker type shoes like Vans or Converse both high and low top! Chunky boots would also work – basically anything that doesn’t look too delicate or fancy like ballet flats or heels will give you the dressed down look you’re after.

I’ve done a similar look with a kimono jacket and ankle boots or flat sandals in the summer. I love the kimono over bodycon look, I do that myself as well.

I also have a sleeveless duster from Topshop apparently in thistle print, although it’s more of a purple and yellow floral in my eyes over black or grey bodycon.

Body cons are fine for college, although honestly I’d go with ones above the knee and not below midi’s just because I feel like midis are quite formal and also impede your walking ability which is bad when you need to run across campus.

I also live in Australia so sometimes it’s just too damn hot. The key is to make it look like you’re not trying too hard. So perhaps some cute ankle boots, and a looser piece of outerwear even better if it hides your butt.

That could mean a trench in a relaxed material, a kimono, long line jacket, sleeveless trench or thick chunky cardigan which has a waist belt.

Stockings would be great if it’s cold where you are. I’d probably stay away from ones which are too low cut or made out of the bandage material because then it’s hard to dress down and is a bit too sexy.

Throw on a scarf, add some accessories and have fun with it! I have a bodycon dress I wear under a black a-line slightly flared skirt because otherwise I feel like I’m going out in lingerie with it on.

The skirt’s long enough to hide the bottom half of the dress and even if it didn’t, they’re usually tight enough to hike up and stay in place.

But there are plenty bodycon dresses that are long and tight without hugging you like a sausage casing that I think are appropriate for casual daytime wear.

One like this or this. Throwing a cropped jacket or blazer on over it could definitely tone down the “I wear this to the club” vibe.

They were pulled off Google image search so one is out of season but the other looks to be available. If you want to try searching eBay or Poshmark this is the grey one and the black one takes me to an Etsy page where you can still buy it.

That second ones looks like it’ll be see through. I want to wear the midi bodycon dresses. The mini ones always end up riding up. I like the first dress, it’s really cute!!

The second one would end up riding up. Thick enough not to be see through darker colors at least and they work well in almost any setting.

Sorry, I read that as “mini” and not midi! Yeah, I agree the longer ones solve any issues about worrying that a malfunction would happen.

IMO if the girls, butt, and a fair amount of leg are covered then that balances out the entire thing being form hugging.

Kinda unrelated, what makes a dress a bodycon dress? When I search it they all look different. Are they dresses that hug the body? Always thought it stood for “body contours” – like they show off your contours haha!

I would put a loose, flowy top over it, wearing it like a jacket of sorts. I have a black and white striped shirt dress that looks similar to this and wear it over my bodycon mini dress.

I’d make sure the bodycon dress is obviously longer that the shirt so it doesn’t look to mini. I’d pair with ballet flat, sandals, or some low profile sneakers.

I’m a pear shape too, similar height. I like tighter dresses for the opposite reason though- I have thick legs and butt so if I wear something loose I often look quite a bit heavier than I am.

I think a bodycon dress for daytime, if it’s in a non-shiny material, no lace etc I have one body-con dress and it is my go-to lazy day dress.

Mainly because it has a built in boob support so I don’t have to bother wearing a bra haha but I dress it down by wearing it with leggings and a long loose cardigan :.
